Abstract

This is a summary of the presentations and discussions at a Workshop on Alternative Medicines held at the European Parliament. The workshop was organised with the aim of raising awareness about alternative medicines and exchanging views on the current legal framework. Seven experts covered topics such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, dietary methods and fasting, and others. A representative of the European Commission contributed comments about the present regulatory scenario.

Today there are over eighty different complementary methods and alternative treatments. This also includes independent healing systems from different cultures and traditions. A common basis and unifying link throughout is holistic thinking.

Delayed by Brexit, on 28th January 2020, All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) – Indian Traditional Sciences hosted Ayurveda Day 2019 colloquium supported by Geoffrey Van Orden CBE MEP and Her Excellency the Ambassador of India to the Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union Ms Gaitri Issar Kumar in the European Parliament at Brussels.
